eBay charges a final value fee when your item sells: a percentage of the total amount of the sale (item price, shipping charged to the buyer and sales tax) plus a fixed per-order fee. The percentage depends on the category and on whether you have an eBay Store. Insertion fees and optional listing upgrades are charged when you list, and Promoted Listings are charged when a promoted item sells.

On eBay.com most categories pay a final value fee of 13.6% of the total amount of the sale up to $7,500 (2.35% above that) plus a per-order fee of $0.30 for orders up to $10 and $0.40 above $10; a Basic Store or higher pays 12.7%. On eBay.co.uk business sellers pay 12.9% in most categories plus a 0.35% regulatory operating fee and the same 30p / 40p per-order fee, while UK private sellers pay no selling fees. The fee is charged on the whole amount the buyer pays, including shipping and sales tax, so a listing with paid shipping costs more in fees than the item price suggests.
