How to use the eBay VeRO checker

The checker compares your listing titles with 6,800 brand names and trademarks that rights owners protect on eBay. It runs in your browser, so the titles you paste are not sent anywhere.

1. Paste your titles. Paste one title, or up to 200 titles with one title per line. You can copy them straight from a Seller Hub or 3Dsellers export.
2. Select Check titles. Every run of one to six words is compared with the list, including common spellings such as Levis and Levi's, Pokemon and Pokémon, or HydroFlask and Hydro Flask. Product names count too, so a title that says iPhone is matched to Apple.
3. Check the result before you list. A brand in the title is fine for a genuine item with your own photos and description. For parts and accessories, write "for" or "fits" before the brand.

What the results mean

• Protected brand found. The title names a brand or product name that its owner protects on eBay. That is fine for a genuine item with your own photos and description. Brands that are also everyday words, such as Coach, Delta or Shark, are flagged the same way, so ignore them if you do not mean the brand.
• Replica or copy wording found. Words such as replica, dupe or inspired by. eBay removes these listings under its counterfeit policy.
• No protected brands found. Nothing from the list is in the title. Read the limits below.

When a branded listing is fine, and when eBay blocks it

Selling a genuine branded item is allowed on eBay. What gets listings hidden or removed is how they are listed. This is what the eBay notices sellers using 3Dsellers receive show.

Your listing is fine when:

• The item is genuine and made by the brand in the title.
• You took the photos yourself, or used eBay catalog photos. Not photos from the brand's website or from another seller.
• You wrote the description yourself, without copying the brand or a supplier.
• You do not claim to be an authorized dealer, and you mention the manufacturer's warranty only if it transfers to the buyer.
• Parts and accessories say "for" or "fits" before the brand.

eBay hides or removes the listing when:

• The photos are copied. This is the most common reason in the notices, and eBay finds most of them with automated detection, without any report from the brand.
• The rights owner reports the item as counterfeit, as an unauthorized copy or as copying a patent.
• The brand is named on an item it did not make, or several brands are added to the title to catch more searches.

Hidden listings come back once you replace the copied photos or text. Removed listings stay removed, and repeated removals can lead to a restricted account.

Where the brand list comes from

• eBay VeRO profiles. Rights owners that publish a profile on eBay's VeRO participant page, with a link to each profile.
• Recent eBay removals. Rights owners named in eBay removal notices that sellers using 3Dsellers received in 2026.
• Well-known trademarks. Famous brands and their product names, such as iPhone, Air Jordan or Pokémon. Many of their owners have no public VeRO profile but still protect these names on eBay.

What a clean result does not cover

A title check cannot see your photos or your description. eBay also hides listings that use photos or text copied from other sellers, manufacturers or stock sites, and many rights owners report listings without publishing a profile. Treat a clean result as one check, not a guarantee.

What is eBay VeRO?

VeRO stands for Verified Rights Owner. It is eBay's program for owners of intellectual property, such as brands, publishers, artists and software makers, to report listings that infringe their rights. When a report is valid, eBay removes the listing and emails the seller.

VeRO covers trademarks, copyrights, design rights and patents. A report can be about the item itself, such as a counterfeit handbag, or about the listing, such as a photo copied from the brand's website.

Is there an official eBay VeRO list?

eBay publishes VeRO participant profiles in its Seller Center. In September 2026 that page listed 1,159 rights owners, each with a PDF that explains what they allow. It is not a complete list. Many rights owners report listings without a public profile. Apple, for example, has no profile on the page, yet Apple Inc. filed removals that sellers using 3Dsellers received this year. That gap is why this checker adds brands from other sources.

What happens when a listing gets a VeRO report

The rights owner sends eBay a Notice of Claimed Infringement. eBay acts on it, takes the listing down and emails you. The email names the policy, the reason and the item number.

Removed or hidden: the two notices you can get

• "We removed some of your listings: Intellectual property policy." A rights owner reported the item, for example as counterfeit or as an unauthorized copy, and the notice names that rights owner. Buyers can no longer see or buy the listing. eBay credits the listing fees, except transaction fees on items that already sold.
• "We hid some of your listings: Intellectual property policy." Usually photos or text that belong to someone else. The listing stays in Active Listings. Once you revise it and remove the copied content, it becomes visible to buyers again.

Can VeRO reports get my eBay account suspended?

Yes. eBay's intellectual property policy says it can remove listings, issue warnings, restrict selling or suspend the account. eBay does not publish a fixed number of reports that leads to a suspension. The notices we see include account restrictions under this policy, so repeated reports are worth taking seriously even when each one feels small.

Common reasons for VeRO removals

Brand name misuse

Using a brand in a title or description when the item is not made by that brand. This includes phrases like "not Nike", "Gucci style" or a list of brands added to catch more searches. A generic iPhone case listed under the brand Apple is eBay's own example.

Copied photos and text

Pictures from the brand's website, Amazon, AliExpress or another seller, and descriptions pasted from a catalog or supplier. Even if the item is genuine, the photos and text belong to someone else.

Counterfeits, replicas and unauthorized copies

Fake or copied goods, including items labeled as replicas, copies of software, movies and music, and reprints of trading cards. eBay does not allow them even when the listing says they are not original.

Parallel imports

Genuine products sold in a country where the rights owner has not allowed them to be sold. Whether this is infringement depends on the country. eBay's example is a handbag meant only for the United States and sold to buyers in France.

Design rights and patents

Products that copy a protected design or use a patented feature without permission, such as generic earbuds that copy a patented touch control.

A person's name or image

Using a celebrity's name, photo or signature to suggest an endorsement, or printing their image on merchandise without permission.

Warranty claims

Saying the manufacturer's warranty covers the item when it does not transfer to a new buyer.

How to list branded items without a VeRO takedown

1. Take your own photos. Do not use pictures from the brand's website, Amazon, AliExpress or another seller, and do not edit copied pictures to make them look different.
2. Write your own description. Do not paste text from the manufacturer, a catalog or a supplier listing.
3. Use a brand name only when the item is made by that brand. If you are not sure who made it, leave the brand out.
4. Put "for" or "fits" before the brand on parts and accessories. Write "Case for iPhone 15", not "iPhone 15 Case", everywhere the brand appears in the listing.
5. Name one brand. Do not add other brands, "not Nike" or "like Gucci" to show up in more searches.
6. Never pair a brand with replica, dupe, inspired by, style or 1:1. These words are a counterfeit signal on their own.
7. Do not claim to be an authorized dealer unless the brand has made you one.
8. Mention the manufacturer's warranty only if it transfers to the buyer.
9. Check where you ship. Some genuine items cannot be resold into other countries. You can block those countries in your shipping policy.
10. Read the rights owner's VeRO profile before you list a brand for the first time. Some allow resale of genuine items with your own photos, others restrict specific product lines.
11. Keep your invoices. Proof of where you bought the item helps if you ask a rights owner to retract a report.

What to do after a VeRO removal

1. Read the notice. Removal notices name the rights owner, the reason and the item number. Hidden-listing notices usually point to photos or text.
2. If the listing was hidden, revise it. Replace the photos and the text, then save. The listing becomes visible again once it follows the policy.
3. If the listing was removed, do not relist it as it was. Relisting the same item or the same content can bring another report.
4. If you think the report is a mistake, contact the rights owner. Include your eBay username, the item number and the reason you are asking for a retraction. Contact details are usually in the rights owner's VeRO profile. Only the rights owner can ask eBay to reinstate the listing.
5. If your account was restricted, open Seller Help on eBay to see the policy issues on your account and the steps to resolve them.
