Seller fees
Shopify is a store builder, not a marketplace, so it charges subscriptions instead of commission. US plans: Basic $39/month ($29/month billed yearly), Grow $105/month ($79 yearly), Advanced $399/month ($299 yearly), Plus from $2,300/month. Shopify Payments online card rates in the US are commonly listed as 2.9% + 30 cents (Basic), 2.7% + 30 cents (Grow) and 2.5% + 30 cents (Advanced). Using a third-party payment provider adds a transaction fee of 2% (Basic), 1% (Grow), 0.6% (Advanced) or 0.2% (Plus). New stores get a short free trial followed by a low-cost introductory period.

How to start selling
Shopify is an ecommerce platform, not a marketplace, so you open a store rather than a seller account. Sign up at shopify.com with an email, start the free trial, add products, a domain and payment settings, then pick a paid plan to open checkout. You can also connect sales channels such as Google, Facebook and Instagram.
Seller questions
No. Shopify is an ecommerce platform that lets you build and run your own online store under your own domain. Shoppers do not browse a central Shopify marketplace to find your products, so you need to bring traffic through search, social media, ads or email. Shopify can connect your store to marketplaces and channels such as Google, Facebook and Instagram.
In the US, Basic costs $39 per month or $29 per month billed yearly, Grow costs $105 or $79 yearly, and Advanced costs $399 or $299 yearly. Shopify Plus starts at $2,300 per month. On top of the plan, you pay card processing fees, plus a transaction fee if you use a payment provider other than Shopify Payments, and any paid apps or themes.
If you use Shopify Payments, Shopify does not add a separate transaction fee, and you pay only the card rate for your plan. If you use a third-party payment provider, Shopify charges 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus, in addition to the provider's own fees. For stores created after May 12, 2025, the fee can also apply to some store credit and gift card payments.
Yes. Shopify offers a free trial for new stores, and the pricing page currently shows 3 days free followed by $1 per month for 3 months on selected plans. Trial length and offers can change, and Shopify cannot extend a trial. If you do not choose a paid plan when the trial ends, the store is paused but your products and settings are kept.
As the store owner, go to Settings, then Plan in your Shopify admin and choose Cancel plan (or Cancel trial). Review pending charges, select a reason, enter your password and confirm. All apps are uninstalled and outstanding charges are billed. Shopify does not refund subscription fees, and domain renewals are not canceled automatically, so cancel or transfer the domain separately.
Yes. After the free trial, stores on a paid plan can switch to the Pause and Build plan for $9 per month. Checkout is turned off on all sales channels, but you can still log in and edit products and settings. To switch, go to Settings, then Plan, choose Cancel plan and select Pause and Build. Uninstall paid apps to avoid their charges.
Shopify keeps a deactivated store's information for 2 years, so you can reopen it by logging in, choosing a plan and adding payment details. After 2 years, or if you request data deletion, the store cannot be reactivated. Before closing, export products, customers and orders you want to keep, because apps are uninstalled when the store is deactivated.
Shopify support is reached through the Shopify Help Center. Log in with the account that owns or manages the store, search for your topic and, if the help articles do not solve it, follow the prompts to contact the support team. The contact options offered depend on your plan and the topic. Signing in first lets support identify your store and verify you as the owner or staff member.
