Mercari charges a 10% selling fee on the item price plus any shipping the buyer pays, for listings created or updated on or after January 6, 2025. There is no listing fee and no separate payment processing fee. Direct deposits are free, Instant Pay costs $3 per cash-out, and sellers with excessive cancellations can be charged 5% of the item price, up to $25.

Your sale earnings become available after the buyer rates the transaction, or Mercari rates it automatically about 72 hours after carrier-confirmed delivery. For other reasons, like a change of mind, sellers can choose to accept a return but are not required to. Approved returns must be shipped back within 3 days.

Mercari cannot delete an account instantly, but you can request permanent closure through the Help Center. First make sure you have no pending transactions, returns or balance left to withdraw. Mercari processes closure requests within 45 days. Federal law requires Mercari to keep some transaction records for up to five years after the account is closed. You can also deactivate an account temporarily instead.

Mercari can limit or close accounts for listing prohibited items, breaking its Terms of Service, suspected fraud or unauthorized access, unusually high cancellations, returns or chargebacks, or missing identity or tax information. You receive an in-app message and email explaining the reason, how long the limit lasts and what to do next. If you think it is a mistake, contact Mercari support.

Mercari files Form 1099-K with the IRS and applicable states when a seller receives more than $20,000 in gross payments and completes more than 200 transactions in a calendar year. This threshold applies starting with the 2025 tax year, filed in 2026, after federal law restored the original limit. Some states may have lower reporting thresholds, and Mercari may ask for W-9 information.
