Seller fees

A Google Merchant Center account and free product listings cost nothing. Shopping ads and Performance Max campaigns are optional and charged through Google Ads, usually per click, based on the budget and bids you set. Google takes no commission because sales complete on your own website. Buy on Google, the program that let shoppers check out on Google, ended on September 26, 2023.

How to start selling

Create a free Google Merchant Center account with a Google account and verify and claim your website. Add business details, shipping and return policies, then upload products by feed, spreadsheet, API or an ecommerce platform integration. Free listings are usually turned on by default, and you can link Google Ads to run Shopping ads.

Seller questions

Is Google Shopping free for sellers?

Yes, listing products is free. Free listings show your products across the Shopping tab, Google Search, Images, Lens, YouTube, Gemini and Business Profile at no cost. You only pay if you choose to run Shopping ads or Performance Max campaigns through Google Ads, which are usually billed per click. Google does not charge a commission on sales.

What happened to Buy on Google?

Buy on Google, which let shoppers pay for products directly on Google Search and Shopping, was shut down in the US on September 26, 2023. Google now sends shoppers to the merchant's website to complete purchases. Merchant Center, free listings and Shopping ads continue to work, but Google no longer processes orders or payments for Search and Shopping.

How do I get paid for sales from Google Shopping?

Google does not collect payment or send payouts for Shopping sales. When a shopper clicks your listing or ad, they go to your website and pay through your own checkout, for example Shopify Payments, Stripe or PayPal. You receive money from that payment provider on its schedule. Google only bills you for any ads you run.

What product information does Google Merchant Center require?

Each product needs an id, title, description, link, image link, price and availability, plus condition for used or refurbished items. Branded products need a brand and a GTIN or MPN, and apparel needs details such as color, size, gender and age group. You also need shipping settings and a return policy on your website before products can show.

Why was my Google Merchant Center account suspended?

Google suspends accounts for severe or repeated policy violations, such as misrepresentation, missing contact or return information, or prices that do not match your website. You usually get a warning first with time to fix the problem. After fixing everything, request a review in Merchant Center. Reviews typically take 3 to 7 business days, and failed reviews trigger a cool down period.

How do I close or delete my Google Merchant Center account?

In Merchant Center, go to Settings, then General, and on the Account setup tab select Close Merchant Center account and confirm. Download any data you want to keep first. Your products are disapproved and ads and free listings stop within about 48 hours. Sub-accounts must be unlinked by the multi-client account or platform first. Recently deleted accounts may be restorable within 30 days.

Do I need a return policy to list on Google Shopping?

Google asks merchants to show clear return and refund information on their website and to add return policy details in Merchant Center. This information can appear next to your products and is also checked during policy reviews. Missing or unclear return, shipping or contact information is a common cause of misrepresentation warnings and suspensions.
