Facebook Marketplace

Listing on Facebook Marketplace is free. If you sell locally and the buyer pays you in person or outside Facebook, there is no selling fee. If you sell with shipping using Marketplace checkout in the US, Facebook deducts a selling fee of 10% of the order total, with a minimum of $0.80. The fee covers payment processing, so there is no separate card fee.

For local sales you collect payment directly from the buyer, for example cash or a payment app, and Facebook is not involved. For shipped orders paid through Marketplace checkout, Facebook sends your earnings, minus the selling fee, to the payout method you add in your Marketplace settings. You can see upcoming and past payouts in the Your Payouts section of Marketplace.

Payouts for shipped Marketplace orders are released after the order is shipped with tracking and the delivery or waiting period in Facebook's payout rules has passed. Your bank can add processing time after Facebook sends the money. Facebook shows the expected date for each order in the Your Payouts section, which is the most reliable place to check timing for your account.

Meta moved Facebook and Instagram Shops from in-app checkout to website checkout starting in June 2025, with most shops switched by the end of August 2025. Shops now send buyers to the business website to pay. Marketplace was a separate product and was not part of that change, so individual sellers can still sell with shipping and checkout on Marketplace in the US.

Facebook stopped offering prepaid shipping labels for new Marketplace listings on February 24, 2025, according to seller reports and industry coverage. Listings created earlier with prepaid labels were not affected. Sellers now buy their own labels from carriers such as USPS, UPS or FedEx, or from label services, and add the tracking number to the order in Marketplace.

Facebook can remove Marketplace access if listings or account activity break its Commerce Policies or Community Standards, for example prohibited items, misleading listings or repeated buyer complaints. New or recently created accounts can also be limited. If you think the decision is wrong, open Marketplace and use the request review option shown on the restriction notice. Facebook reviews the request and tells you the result.

There is no separate Marketplace seller account. To stop selling, mark items as sold or delete your listings, and remove your payout method from Marketplace settings once all orders are complete. To remove Marketplace completely you must delete your Facebook account in Accounts Center. Meta gives a grace period of about 30 days to cancel a deletion before it becomes permanent.

Income from selling for profit is generally taxable. For US sellers paid through Marketplace checkout, Meta must send a Form 1099-K when payments reach the IRS reporting threshold, which is $20,000 and more than 200 transactions for the 2025 tax year. Selling personal items for less than you paid is usually not taxable income. Ask a tax professional about your own situation.
