How to start selling
No longer accepts sellers for onsite checkout. Businesses can still set up a Shop in Commerce Manager, but buyers are sent to the business's own website to pay.
Seller questions
No. Meta ended onsite checkout for Facebook and Instagram Shops and moved shops to website checkout. Shoppers can still browse storefronts, collections and product pages on Facebook and Instagram, but they are sent to the merchant's own website to complete the purchase. Meta no longer processes those payments for the merchant.
Meta announced the change in June 2025 and began moving shops to website checkout that month. Most shops were expected to finish the move by the end of August 2025. Shops connected to third-party order management systems such as Magento or Adobe Commerce Cloud were scheduled for a later date, and Meta said it would notify each shop first.
Meta said website checkout gives businesses more control of the checkout experience and cuts the time needed to set up and maintain a shop. Industry coverage also linked the change to cost cutting and regulatory scrutiny. It reversed an earlier rule that had required US Shops to use onsite checkout by April 2024.
Meta ended on-platform payment processing, order management, returns handling, chargeback and dispute handling, and buyer messaging through the Commerce Manager inbox. Existing order records stayed viewable as archived data for a limited time. Shopify sellers could keep processing existing orders but temporarily lost order attribution in ad reporting during the move.
Sellers can keep a Shop on Facebook and Instagram and link products to checkout on their own store, for example on Shopify, BigCommerce or WooCommerce. Sellers without a website can use marketplaces with built-in checkout such as Etsy, eBay or Amazon, or local selling through Facebook Marketplace, which is a separate product.
