Seller questions

Is eBay Classifieds still available in the US?

No. eBay's US classifieds site closed in 2016. The old eBayclassifieds.com address later pointed to the eBay Classifieds Group, a set of classifieds brands outside the US such as Gumtree in the UK and Kijiji in Canada. eBay sold that group to Adevinta in 2020, so there is no eBay-run US classifieds site today.

When did eBay Classifieds US shut down?

eBay Classifieds in the US closed in 2016. A guide on eBay classified ads reports that it stopped taking new postings at the end of August 2016 and fully shut down by September 30, 2016. We could not find the original eBay announcement to confirm the exact day, so treat the September date as reported.

What was eBay Classifieds before it closed?

eBay first ran US local classifieds under the Kijiji brand, which it created in Canada in 2005. Kijiji's US expansion did not take off, and the American site was renamed eBay Classifieds in 2010. Kijiji itself kept running in Canada and remains a large classifieds site there under Adevinta ownership.

Why did eBay close its US classifieds site?

eBay did not leave a detailed public explanation that we could verify. A guide on eBay classified ads suggests the site was closed from lack of use. It had to compete with Craigslist and, later, mobile apps for local selling, while eBay kept offering classified ad listing formats in some categories on its main site.

What are alternatives to eBay Classifieds in the US?

Common options for free local listings in the US are Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, OfferUp and Nextdoor. On eBay itself, sellers can offer local pickup on normal listings, and some categories such as vehicles and real estate support classified ad formats. Local apps are usually free to post, while shipped sales carry fees.
