Media items (books, DVD, music, software, video) add a $1.80 closing fee per item. Fulfillment by Amazon, storage and advertising cost extra. UK: Individual is 0.75 GBP per item and Professional is 25 GBP per month, both excluding VAT, with a 0.25 GBP minimum referral fee in most categories. How to start selling
Go to sell.amazon.com, pick the Individual or Professional plan and sign in with or create an Amazon account. You provide a government ID, bank account, credit card, phone number and tax information, then complete identity verification, which can include a video call. Some categories and brands need extra approval before you can list.
Seller questions
In the US you pay either $0.99 per item sold on the Individual plan or $39.99 per month on the Professional plan. On top of that, each sale has a referral fee that is a percentage of the total price and depends on the category, with a $0.30 minimum in most categories. Media items add a $1.80 closing fee, and FBA and ads are extra.
The Individual plan has no monthly fee and charges $0.99 per item sold, which suits sellers with fewer than about 40 sales a month. The Professional plan costs $39.99 per month regardless of volume and adds tools such as bulk listing, reports, API access, advertising and the ability to apply for restricted categories. Both plans still pay referral fees.
Amazon pays your available balance to your bank account on a regular cycle of about every 14 days, and you can request a transfer manually. Since March 12, 2026 most US and Canadian accounts are under a delivery date reserve, so funds from an order become eligible for payout 7 days after the confirmed delivery date. Allow a few business days for the bank transfer to arrive.
First fulfill or cancel open orders, remove FBA inventory, resolve A-to-z claims and chargebacks, and make sure your balance is zero with no money owed. Then in Seller Central go to Settings, Account Info, and choose Close your account, and confirm the request from the email Amazon sends. Closing the seller account does not delete your separate Amazon shopping account.
Open the Account Health page in Seller Central to see the reason and the policy involved. Amazon usually asks for an appeal that explains the root cause, the actions you took to fix it, and the steps that will prevent it from happening again, plus any documents such as invoices or ID. Funds may be held while the account is deactivated.
Yes. Sellers must offer a return policy that is at least as generous as Amazon's own, which for most items allows returns within 30 days of delivery. For FBA orders Amazon handles returns. For orders you ship yourself, Amazon can authorize returns automatically, and buyers can file an A-to-z Guarantee claim if a problem is not resolved.
Amazon issues Form 1099-K to US sellers who pass the IRS threshold, which is now more than $20,000 in gross payments and more than 200 transactions in a year, and provides it in the Tax Document Library in Seller Central. As a marketplace facilitator, Amazon calculates, collects and remits sales tax in US states that require it.
Sign in to Seller Central, open Help, and use the option to get support to search help pages or open a case by topic. Depending on the issue, you can get a reply by email, chat or phone. For account health problems, use the Account Health page, which has its own support path. Keep case IDs for follow up.
Each region has its own Seller Central account and fees. In the UK the Individual plan is 0.75 GBP per item and Professional is 25 GBP per month, both excluding VAT, with most referral fees between 8% and 15%. UK and EU sellers generally need VAT registration, product compliance such as a responsible person for some goods, and must follow local consumer return rules.
