eBay discontinued its own Shopify sales channel app at the end of 2022. According to eBay's notice, reported by Value Added Resource in October 2022 and discussed on the eBay Community, the app became inaccessible after December 31, 2022. The app's Shopify App Store page, listed under eBay Inc., now says the app is not currently available on the Shopify App Store.
An eBay staff member on the eBay Community said the main reason was seller experience, explaining that the top third-party provider apps were rated higher than the eBay Shopify app. eBay presented the change as moving merchants to better-rated connectors. Many sellers in the thread disagreed, pointing to extra monthly costs and the loss of listing options they relied on.
No. eBay stated that existing listings on eBay would remain live and sales would continue after the app was discontinued. What stopped was the ability to manage those listings and orders from inside Shopify. After the shutdown, sellers could revise, relist or end the listings directly on eBay, or connect a third-party app to manage them from Shopify again.
eBay did not launch a replacement app of its own. In its shutdown notice, eBay pointed Shopify merchants to third-party connector apps, naming Codisto, CedCommerce, inkFrog, Sellbrite and Magnalister, and said sellers could also manage listings and orders directly on the eBay website. Each app has its own pricing and features, so merchants had to choose and set one up before the end of 2022.
Shopify Marketplace Connect, formerly Codisto, is Shopify's own app for syncing a Shopify catalog with marketplaces including eBay and Amazon. A Shopify Marketplace Connect staff reply on the Shopify Community in July 2024 said the app is free up to 50 marketplace orders per month, then charges 1% of sales from the 51st order, up to $99 per month. eBay selling fees are charged separately.
The app can no longer be opened, so data cannot be exported through it. Your listings and orders still exist on eBay, where the Reports tab in Seller Hub lets you download listing and order reports as Excel or CSV files, with order reports covering 1 to 90 days at a time. Product data in your Shopify store was not affected by the shutdown.
The listing page still exists at apps.shopify.com/ebay under the developer eBay Inc., but it states that the app is not currently available on the Shopify App Store, so it cannot be installed. The page directs support questions to eBay Inc. directly. Merchants who want to connect Shopify to eBay now need to use a different app.
