Why this happens

The listing title is longer than eBay's 80-character limit. Why eBay enforces this: eBay caps titles at 80 characters on every site so search results stay readable and comparable. Anything longer is refused rather than cut, because a cut title could lose the words that describe the item. When it usually happens: It usually comes from automated titles: title templates that join brand, model, size and color, supplier titles pasted in full, or AI-generated titles that were not length-checked. On eBay's local sites this error reads as follows. German: Artikelbezeichnungen dĂŒrfen nicht mehr als "80" Zeichen enthalten. French: Les titres des annonces ne peuvent pas dĂ©passer "80" caractĂšres.

Example Wrong Settings

A title built from a SKU template or product name that is 95 characters long.

How to fix it

  1. In 3Dsellers, open the listing and shorten the title to 80 characters or fewer (the editor shows the count).
  2. If titles come from a title template, SKU template or AI generator, set the template so the result stays under 80 characters.
  3. Publish again.

How to prevent it

Build title templates with the longest possible values in mind, put the most searched words first, and drop filler words like 'new' or 'free shipping' that eBay search does not need.
