The chosen category does not allow variation listings. Pick a category that does, or split into single listings.

Why this happens

The listing's category does not allow variation listings. Why eBay enforces this: Only some eBay categories support variations, mostly clothing, shoes and accessories. In other categories each variant must be its own listing. When it usually happens: It usually appears when a multi-variant product is mapped into a category that does not support variations.

Example Wrong Settings

Phone case with 6 colors as variations in a category that does not allow variations.

How to fix it

  1. In 3Dsellers, open the listing and choose a category that supports variations (most clothing, shoes and accessories categories do).
  2. If none fits, create one listing per variation.
  3. Publish again.

How to prevent it

Check whether a category supports variations before mapping variation products into it.
