The category is not valid, select another category.

The category ID is not valid on the eBay site the listing targets. Pick a category from that site's tree.

Why this happens

Usually, this means the category and the eBay Site do not match. Why eBay enforces this: Category IDs are different on each eBay site, and categories are retired or split over time. eBay rejects an ID that does not exist on the listing's site or is no longer a valid leaf category. When it usually happens: It shows up when listings are copied from one eBay site to another, or when a category mapping still points to an old, retired category. On eBay's local sites this error reads as follows. German: Die Kategorie ist nicht gültig. Bitte wählen Sie eine andere Kategorie aus.

How to fix it

  1. In 3Dsellers, open the listing and check which eBay site it targets.
  2. Re-select the category using the category picker for that site (category IDs differ between sites).
  3. If a category mapping rule assigned it, fix the mapping.
  4. Publish again.

How to prevent it

Re-map categories when you start selling on another eBay site, and review category mappings a few times a year, because eBay updates its category tree regularly.
